Where Will CSI Be In Fall 2010?

By • Filed in: NewsLink

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (dated May 21, 2010), there is an article titled “The Networks Juggle Time Slots For the Fall” that talks about possible time slot changes of current primetime shows in the new fall season, and CSI is one of the shows that will likely get moved to a new time slot according to the article.

CBS could move the once-dominant CSI out of its Thursday berth to make way for The Mentalist (the network tested a switcheroo earlier this season) or a new drama like Hawaii Five-O. A tropical-based series as a lead-out for Survivor? Not a bad play.

David Rambo Would Hate to See CSI Without Catherine

By • Filed in: MediaLink

CSI Files had an interview with CSI’s supervising producer David Rambo. Besides answering questions about the 10th season of the show, the Dr. Jekyll storyline and other cast members, Rambo also talked about Marg and the Catherine/Vartann relationship.

CSI Files: Marg Helgenberger has gone on record saying that her contract is up at the end of the year, and she doesn’t yet have a new one. Should we be worried about Catherine Willows?

Rambo: That one’s out of my hands, but I’d personally hate to see CSI without Catherine.

CSI Files: Catherine and Detective Vartann (Alex Carter) have embarked on a romance this season. What was behind the decision to pair them together, and will we see more of their relationship before the season is done?

Rambo: It seems that every season, when we talk with the actors about where their characters could go in the coming year, the subject of Catherine having a love life comes up. Not only is Catherine a very attractive woman, Marg is an actor of tremendous range and willing to explore the emotional boundaries of a character working long hours at a potentially life-threatening job as years go by. Carol Mendelsohn came into my office one day this season and said she’d been thinking that Catherine and Vartann would make a natural couple. It sounded right to me, and to others on the staff. When Jackie Hoyt ran it by Marg before starting “Sin City Blue,” she loved the idea. As to how much of the love life we get to see, we have to remember that the show’s about crime scene investigations, but I don’t expect a flame that hot to flicker out quickly.

Marg: Catherine Will Risk Everything to Stop Dr. Jekyll

By • Filed in: MiscellaneousLink

TV Guide’s Adam Bryant just posted an article about CSI’s two-part season finale, and most of it is focused on Marg’s character, Catherine Willows. Marg talks about what happens with Langston in the finale and how Catherine handles it. The following quote contains spoilers:

CSI’s Marg Helgenberger: Catherine Will Risk Everything to Stop Dr. Jekyll

CSI‘s 10th season has seen Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) rise to the challenge of being a supervisor. But how will she respond when one of her team members is suspected of murder?

[...] “There are some doubts in some of the other team members, but Catherine is the one who really has his back,” Helgenberger says. “As a supervisor, it’s important to really give everyone the benefit of the doubt and remain as objective as you possibly can. I think Catherine is a very inclusive leader, and being a woman, I think she’s a little more aware of and sensitive to the team’s feelings and thoughts. But she’s also getting more and more confident and she’ll do what she needs to do.” [...]

Mendelsohn: “The Show Can’t Continue Without Our Catherine Willows.”

By • Filed in: CareerLink

In the latest issue of TV Guide (May 17-23, 2010), there is an article titled CSI: Who Will Be Back? that discusses CSI cast members’ contract status and the possibilities of their return with quotes from George Eads, who plays Catherine’s assistant supervisor Nick Stokes, Robert David Hall (Dr. Robbins) and show runner Carol Mendelsohn. There is no quote from Marg because she “doesn’t discuss renegotiations.”

[...] CBS executives were not available for comment about the remaining actors’ futures, but Mendelsohn insists CSI could not function without Helgenberger.

“Marg’s deal is up, but the show can’t continue without our Catherine Willows,” she says. “Doing a show about Vegas, I like to bet my money, and I would bet that Marg Helgenberger will be back as Catherine in the fall. We love her.” Helgenberger’s reps said the actress does not discuss renegotiations. [...]

Fancast: “Helgenberger’s CSI”

By • Filed in: MediaLink

Fancast has an article that reviews this season’s ratings of the three CSI shows and talks about Marg’s future in CSI (again, based on her TV Squad interview) and possible changes in the shows’ time slots. Despite the unknown status of Marg’s contract, we really like it that the author calls the original show Helgenberger’s CSI!

‘CSI’ Franchise Faces Possible Shake-Up, From Vegas to NYC

New time slots and the possible exit of at least one familiar face could help breathe new life into CBS’ aging ‘CSI’ franchise as the three series enter the 2010-11 TV season.

Among the people who may be on the move: ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘ vet Marg Helgenberger told TV Squad that her contract is up this season. As of late April, “I haven’t been asked back,” she shared, “so we’ll see.”

Helgenberger’s ‘CSI’ is facing perhaps the most critical juncture of the three shows going into the fall, having suffered a 28 percent drop in ratings. Recently CBS experimented by swapping Thursday time slots for ‘CSI’ and ‘The Mentalist,’ though it’s also possible that the network may opt to relocate the 10-year-old procedural to Fridays at 9, says Variety.

French “Closer” Magazine on Marg’s Contract Status

By • Filed in: MediaLink

The French magazine Closer published an article about the current status of Marg’s contract with CSI. The article is based on Marg’s answer to a question in her TV Squad interview, so there isn’t really anything we don’t know already. Here’s the original article, you can click the jump for an English version:

Marg Helgenberger pourrait quitter “Les Experts”

Alors on verra bien”.
