According to Adam Bryant of TV Guide, Oscar-nominated actor Elliott Gould will guest-star in the second episode of CSI’s 11th season. The episode will be important to Catherine as it seems that Gould’s character, who is a casino mogul, will bring memories of Catherine’s father Sam Braun.

Exclusive: Elliott Gould to Guest-Star on CSI

by Adam Bryant, Jul 31, 2010 04:24 PM ET

Oscar-nominated actor Elliott Gould will guest-star in the second episode of CSI‘s upcoming season, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Gould will play an old-school casino mogul who crosses paths with the team when one of his casinos becomes the crime scene. The episode will be particularly important for Catherine (Marg Helgenberger), whose father, Sam Braun, was also a casino boss.

“We will find out more about the legacy Sam left Catherine in that episode,” executive producer Carol Mendelsohn says.

Gould, 71, received an Oscar nod for 1969′s swinging dramedy Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and has appeared in dozens of other films, including Robert Altman’s M*A*S*H and the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, in which he also played a former casino kingpin. On the small screen, he starred in the 1980s sitcom E/R and recurred as Ross and Monica’s father on Friends.

Season 11 of CSI premieres Thursday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on CBS.

Carol Mendelsohn Plans to Beg Marg to Stay

By • Filed in: Career, Media, NewsLink

TV Guide’s William Keck who was at CBS’ TCA Summer Press Tour Party on July 28 posted scoops he got there. Here’s the part about CSI. Contains mild spoilers:

CSI show runner Carol Mendelsohn tells me Bill Irwin will be reprising his role as inmate Nathan Haskell in the show’s 11th season premiere, then return for three additional episodes in a story arc that will finally introduce the wife of Laurence Fishburne’s Dr. Raymond Langston. “Toward the end of the season, Mrs. Langston will play a pivotal role,” says Mendelsohn. Plus, hearing that Marg Helgenberger has decided to end her long run as Catherine Willows this season, Mendelsohn says she plans to “start begging on my knees as the season progresses. No one ever leaves the CSI family, so we’ll see.” Finally, Mendelsohn has been speaking with Jorja Fox (Sara) about how to explain to the audience why Sara has been apart from her husband Grissom for so long. Unfortunately, she has so far been unsuccessful in her repeated attempts to sway William Petersen back for a guest spot to explain the divide.

Marg Likes Playing Characters That Are Less Glamorous And More Down to Earth

By • Filed in: Gallery, MediaLink

We got you one more short interview with Marg that was done during the Roma Fiction Fest. In this one, Marg talks about Catherine’s confidence and strength and about the type of characters she likes playing. You can watch the interview by clicking the link below. Marg’s part starts at around 8:35 and lasts for about 40 seconds.

Transcript:

Marg: I’ve enjoyed how I’ve, you know, the confidence and the strength that Catherine has had throughout all these years. But, now that she’s a leader, um, it’s really given me the opportunity to – to explore those qualities and in me, myself as well as in the character.

Marg: I like playing characters that are a lot more, um, kind of, uh less glamorous perhaps and characters that are maybe more…less kind of sophisticated or less worldly and um, more I guess, uh, simple, down to earth.

Thanks a lot to Barbara for directing us to the interview and to Chell for transcribing!

Meanwhile, a scan of William Keck’s interview with Marg from the latest TV Guide has been added to the gallery. Shoutout to @KayLyne for the pretty scan!

Season 11 Will Be Marg’s Last Season of CSI

By • Filed in: Career, NewsLink

Marg has confirmed to TV Guide’s William Keck that she will only be in 19 episodes in CSI’s 11th season and that she thinks they will be her last CSI episodes. Apart from the reason behind her upcoming departure and the possible way for Catherine to exit the show, she also talked about both her and Catherine’s love lives.

TV Guide Magazine: With a pay raise, you were in line to top Law & Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay as TV’s highest-paid actress, right?

Helgenberger: I did not get a pay raise this year. I asked to do less episodes, so I am doing only 19. CBS was also using the poor economy as a way to pull in the reins, so honestly all of us took pay cuts this year. Because I’m doing [fewer episodes], I won’t be making as much. Plus, I negotiated to do a few episodes in which I’m only working three days, so the salary was adjusted. Apart from the money, I wasn’t quite ready to let go of the character and the people I work with.
