Siobhan Ryan is the daughter of Johnny and Maeve Ryan, who own a bar in Manhattan. She has two sisters (Mary and Cathleen) and two brothers (Frank and Pat). Siobhan is a police officer, partnered first with Bill Hyde (who she becomes involved with) and later with Ken Graham. She was first married to Joe Novak, with whom she had a son, Sean. Later she was married to Max Dubujak. She also had an engagement with Bill Hyde.

Marg’s character had so many functions that we’ve listed all her different ties to the other characters under Misc. Some of these plot lines occurred either before or after Marg took on the role, but we’ve included them all because they make the character. Ryan’s Hope ran 14 seasons in all.

- What follows is about Siobhan’s husband Max. It explains some things that happened to Siobhan and a bit about their relationship.
- Max came to New York to be with his daughter Jacqueline Dubujack Novak. Max has several mob ties. He arranged Jacqueline’s marriage to her husband Joe. Max became very interested in Jillian Coleridge Ryan and they almost had a fling. Max tried to have Joe killed after he found out he was having an affair with his ex-wife Siobhan Ryan. Max also forced Maggie Shelby to make love to him several times. He was also blackmailing Sydney Geer because she had been his former mistress. Sydney was going to write a memoir about her experiences with Max but after announcing this she was found dead, having fallen from Max’s balcony. Max was thought to have murdered her, but it was found that it wasn’t him. Siobhan Ryan and Max became very close and they got married in 1986. To begin with they were happy but little did anyone know that Siobhan’s ex-husband Joe was actually still alive and he wanted Siobhan back. Joe showed Siobhan Max was a criminal and they got into a struggle, where Max was killed. But he wasn’t really dead, because the next year, Siobhan started getting strange gifts. Max wanted her back. Max and Joe got into a fight again and finally, Max died for real. But before Max died, he had put an explosive laden music box in Siobhan and Joe’s house. Joe was killed by it.

- Bill Hyde was Siobhan Ryan Novak’s partner. They soon became romantically involved and moved in together. But when Siobhan knew her former husband, Joe Novak had come back to town, she wanted to go back to him. A while later, Siobhan discovered that she was pregnant with Joe’s baby. The only problem was that Joe was married to the daughter of a mobster (Jacqueline Dubujak Novak) and she was afraid that if anyone found out, the mob would hurt Joe. Siobhan and Bill had a fight and called of their engagement. However, when the baby was born, everyone thought it was Bill’s. While this all was going on, Bill became involved in a secret undercover investigation about Max Dubujack. In 1984 he convinced Siobhan to return to the police force as his partner. Bill left when Siobhan grew closer to Max Dubujack and Max’s brother Rick grew closer to Ryan Fenelli.
- Fenno Moore was a federal agent who helped Joe Novak and Siobhan Ryan Novak bring down mobster Max Dubujack. When his superiors at the bureau attempted to reassign him, he chose to quit the agency. He asked Siobhan to start a private practice with him after Joe died. In the final episode of the show, she accepted his offer.

- Joe Novak was a mobster who had a long relationship with Siobhan Ryan. They met in 1979 and soon after were engaged. It was rumored that Joe was involved with the mob, because his uncle Tizo Novotney, was rumored to have mob ties. On the day of their wedding, Siobhan’s sister, Mary Ryan Fenelli was killed on Tizo’s orders, because she had discovered information about Tizo’s organization. In 1980, Mary’s husband Jack Fenelli found out about this and killed Tizo. Joe didn’t want to retaliate against Jack, so he faked his own death. In 1981, Joe returned to go back to Siobhan and get revenge on Jack. He bought “Delia’s Crystal Palace” and worked with mobster Alexei Vartova.
When Siobhan found out he still had mob ties she left him, but they quickly got back together. Joe left town in 1983 after offending a mob family but returned that same year, except he was married to Jacqueline Dubujack, whom he had been forced to marry. Joe still loved Siobhan and she became pregnant with Sean. Joe was injured in 1984 when a bomb exploded in Ryan’s Bar, so he was sent to a hospital in Europe by the Dubujack’s. Joe escaped but his getaway car crashed and everyone thought he was dead. After the “death” Siobhan married Max Dubujack. Siobhan learned that Joe wasn’t really dead, but the crash had disfigured his face, which resulted in Joe getting plastic surgery. The rest of the story is the same as in the Max Dubujack section.
