Marg Helgenberger Quits CSI Crime Lab After Finding New Love
Saturday August 28,2010
By Mike ParkerMARG Helgenberger is to leave the hit Channel Five show after 11 years as the crime lab’s leading lady.
Viewers will see feisty crime scene sleuth Catherine Willows fall head over heels for Detective Vartann, played by Alex Carter, before disappearing into the sunset.
And in what she describes as “a real life-mirrors-art scenario”, the 51-year-old blonde decided to quit because she now has a new man in her life since divorcing LA Law actor Alan Rosenberg after 20 years.
Marg, who has played Willows since CSI began, refuses to name her new partner, but insists: “When viewers see Catherine fall head over heels, that’s pretty much the way it’s going for me too.”
Faced with her first on-screen love scenes since she played George Clooney’s girlfriend Karen Hines in medical drama ER in 1996, she adds: “It’s been that long since I had to shave my legs for close-up shots.”
Her departure comes at the end of the show’s 11th season, which will be screened here next year.
She said: “I’m leaving on the best of terms. It will be a wrench but it’s time to move on. The show is seen in something like 120 countries and, while others fall by the wayside, CSI goes from strength to strength.”
