Télé Star Scans & Translation

By • Filed in: Career, GalleryLink

Many thanks to Angela from MCO for getting the Télé Star scans and translating the Marg interview for us. Basically, it’s the same interview the U.S. TV Guide did with Marg and Jorja that was published this October, but Télé Star‘s version included a few questions and answers that were left out in TV Guide. Including those about Marg’s plan after her current contract is due and about Catherine’s love life. ;)

Translation:

At age 51, Marg Helgenberger has built herself a stronghold on CSI. Since William Petersen’s (Grissom) departure, she has been the leader of the show, a role she assumed perfectly. But without being vague, she announces her wish to leave the show that made her famous.

TÉLÉ STAR: The ratings of CSI have a tendency to drop in the US. Are you affected by it?
MARG HELGENBERGER: No. The show is in its 10th season and is still very popular. The simple fact that it has stayed at the top for so long proves well that the show continues to be liked. There are also CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and all the other series inspired by our show. I never forget that CSI is THE original series. I’m very proud of that.

TL: How do you explain the drop in the ratings?
MH: After William Petersen’s and Gary Dourdan’s (Warrick Brown) departures, we had to find new materials. For the writers as well. Now the stories are stronger than ever.

TL: Your contract ends at the end of the 10th season. Are you going to re-sign?
MH: The producers have contacted my agent about that. He answered them with a yes. Actually, I would like to do one more year, and that’s all. I really want to stop after the 11th season ends.

TL: Is that William Petersen who gave you this idea?
MH: No, it’s just a goal I have set for myself.

TL: Do you still keep in touch with William Petersen?
MH: Of course. I went to Chicago to see his play. And recently he came to visit us on the set in Los Angeles.

TL: Do you think he will come back on CSI one day?
MH: Yes. I think he will come back for the series finale. But don’t worry, the show still has a long future ahead of it.

TL: Do you have news on Gary Dourdan?
MH: We had lunch together a few days ago. I was so happy to see him. He performs a lot with his band (Smoky Mirrors). He did a concert in a club in Dubai recently.

TL: You posed for glamor photos with Jorja Fox. Were you trying to prove that the females on CSI can be sexy too?
MH: Well, at least it’s not a conflict! (Laughs) But why can’t we do it more on the show? That won’t make a lot of sense, but the hotter, the better, right?

TL: I assume it’s not easy to stay feminine in a man’s world?
MH: You never need to compromise your femininity, you have to be proud of it. Catherine is a qualified, intelligent and passionate woman. And being at ease in her work makes her sexy already.

TL: You have asked for a love story for years now. Do you need to show your frustration to get what you want?
MH: (Laughs) Indeed, I have. I can tell you: I’ve got what I wanted! In episodes that haven’t been aired in the US yet, Catherine flirts with one of the detectives.

TL: A true love story?
MH: As for that, I’ll need to call the producer and talk with her about that.

TL: If you had to pick one thing that happened in your life which made you see things differently. What would it be?
MH: (Ponders) I was in college when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was so worried that I dropped out of school. Around the same time, my father discovered that he had multiple sclerosis. I wondered why all these tragedies happened to us at the same time. My mother recovered, it’s been about 30 years now, thank god! My father died very young, he was 50.

TL: What are the lessons you learned from these painful experiences?
MH: I became stronger and more determined than ever. I knew I’d achieve my goals. And I always do!
