The actor recently bowed out of his role as forensic expert Gil Grissom after eight years, but remains as the show’s executive producer.

A big screen version of the series has long been rumoured, but Petersen confirmed it in his latest interview.

“Yes, there will be a movie. I can understand people are a little trepidatious because of the franchise around the world and how well it’s doing. Usually people leave it until a series has finished – they did that with the X-Files and Sex and the City. But it’s about finding the right story – there has got to be a real reason to do it. You don’t just do it because you want to make money – you do it because there’s a story that can’t be told on TV and needs to be told from CSI’s perspective and the audience wants it. And we can’t wait for CSI to end or Grissom will be about 90,” he told the Radio Times.

Laurence Fishburne joined CSI in December as Professor Raymond Langston, giving the series an 18 per cent ratings hike to 20.6 million viewers.

Petersen previously said that the prospective of a film outing was the reason why his character was not killed off. “I’d love to see us make a CSI film. That’s the reason Grissom isn’t going to die of a brain tumour,” he said.

I agree. I don’t like Tarantino’s movies, but I love his episodes on CSI!

Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” is a very very romantic story – in addition to all the Tarantino standard storyline specialties i.e. sex, drugs and violence… – I adore “Jackie Brown”, it’s still an icon to me. Tarantino or no Tarantino – a CSI movie with the original crew and as an extra bonus the hunk Alex Carter would just knock my socks off. There must be at least a Million possibilities to pick an intriguing story. Certainly there are no financial hindrances. Any hard core CSI fan like me would die for a CSI movie and it most probably would be a huge box office hit! GO FOR IT!!!!

MOVIE! hard to imagine the way the actual tv show has gone down hill since Petersen left. Seems it’s now the Laurence Fishburne show, not CSI. Pretty dull. There’s no spirit, no fun, left in the show, so how can they revive this in a movie? It’s not that the show has to be funny at all-it’s a drama & that’s what we want to watch, but that has to be some ‘comic relief’ –Shakespeare knew that & included it in his dramas, CSI used to do so, but not lately.
They’d need the Catherine-Gill relationship to develop-they used to be fun together, till the Sara idiocy was thrust upon us. Whatever they do for a movie, please, NO GSR!! We’ve all had far too much already & it darn near killed the tv show. Sure stopped a lot of the former audience form watching CSI.
Too bad they can’t bring back Warrick-he added some needed angst to the show. The movie would have to be Grissom based –too few would be interested in watching 90 minutes more of Fishburne.
    Good luck.

I don’t mind Ray Langston. I like the character and would like to get to know him more. However, I’m not really excited about a CSI movie. I think the show is past its prime. It would have been a great idea a few years back, but I just don’t see the point in making a movie now.

To me, season 9 has been a great season so far. In fact, I think it’s the best one since season 5. I find the show enjoyable again and I really like the new dynamic of the team. I liked Grissom, but he was never my favorite character to begin with so I wasn’t much affected by his departure.
