LOS ANGELES, CA, Nov 08, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) — On Monday, November 10, the Consulate General of Sweden in Los Angeles and the University of California Office the President will host the 7th Annual California Nobel Laureate Dinner at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. News media are invited to this event, which brings together California winners of the Nobel Prize, the world’s highest scientific honor, with California high school students who have excelled in a UC program for math and science students. Ten Nobel laureates will attend.
California and Sweden, the home of the Nobel Prize, are global leaders in research and innovation. Researchers in California universities contribute richly to the economy, health and quality of life of the state. This event recognizes some of California’s highest achievers in scientific research and connects them with high-achieving high school students who represent California’s future promise to the world.

WHEN: Monday, November 10, 2008, 6:30-10 p.m.
WHERE: The Getty Center, Los Angeles
WHY: To honor California Nobel laureates and high school students who have excelled in the UC-sponsored COSMOS program (California Summer School for Mathematics and Science)WHO: Keynote speaker Kary Mullis, a Nobel Laureate, will be introduced by Emmy award-winning actress Marg Helgenberger of ‘CSI.’ UC President Mark Yudof and former California First Lady Gayle Wilson will speak, as well as the consul General of Sweden, Nina Ersman. NPR’s Judy Muller will emcee the evening. Ten California winners of the Nobel Prize and 20 California high school students from the COSMOS program will attend the event.

7:45 p.m.: Ten California winners of the Nobel Prize are announced with a trumpet fanfare and escorted down a staircase to their tables
8:00 p.m.: UC President Mark Yudof speaks
8:40 p.m.: Former California First Lady Gayle Wilson speaks
9:30 p.m.: Actress Marg Helgenberger introduces Nobel Laureate Kary Mullis for keynote address
